After breakfast and a little pastry from a "window shop".
We wandered around and then decided to go to Bran.
The travelling gods must have been smiling on us, because we had to get a taxi to one of the bus depots. The first taxi couldn't understand us., but the 2nd taxi spoke perfect English and for about $3 (10 Lei) delivered us to the bus depot 2 minutes before the bus departed.
For $2 each we got on the local bus to Bran (40 minutes). The bus reminded me of a 1970s Grendas bus, and the depot was very similar to what you see in 3rd world countries.
We got to Bran and went straight to the castle. Bran Castle is the home of Vlad the Impaler, whom Bram Stoker based his character of Count Dracula on.
Historic, tick, as castles go, ok.
After the castle we had few beers in the town of Bran. Bran reminds me of a small version of Handorf (SA) or being up in the Dandenongs. Transylvania has a very heavy German influence.
Kristin drinking a "Dracula Beer".
Apparently the South has more of an Ottoman influence. We'll see.We returned on the local bus and got another taxi back to our apartment for a little break.
Next we did a wander of the streets and had a drink at one of the many street cafes. Amazingly nearly every second cafe specialises in pizza!
After a few beers, we got some Indian take away (lamb rendang and garlic naan). The garlic was important. ..just in case!
Cheers,
A& K.
