Stockholm: Day 3

Last day in Stockholm and we started it with Charlie, the 11 year old son of Karen Brown, picking us up in the dinghy (powered by a 30hp outboard motor in the heart of town (Strandvagen). Charlie of course was wearing his Collingwood jumper a present from his Auntie Jodie. Later on he put on his new Collingwood  cap, which I gave him yesterday.
This is where all the tour boats leave from. We must have looked a sight, two 52 year olds climbing into a dinghy piloted by a 11 y.o boy!

Charlie took us for a ride first to their charter boat, the "M/Y Merceditas". The boat was original owned by Prince Rainier of Monaco and has had several owners since including Bjorn Borg.

Charlie then took us down the canal beside Djurgarden. When we got out into the open water we all decided that it was too windy to do the lap of the island. So we returned to their "home", the boat "The Meteor".

After a cuppa, Charlie wanted to have a kick of the footy again. We got some fun looks from people walking by. There is a grassed area behind two magnificent museums, the Vasa and the Nordic.

We said our goodbyes, Karen, Jill and Charlie were fantastic and generous with their time.
We then walked to The Hallwyl Museum. The home of Count and Countess Walther and Wilhelmina von Hallwyl, one of Stockholm's most eccentric and engaging museums. This palatial residence was built as a winter home for the immensely rich couple, completed in 1898. Most things have left unchanged since the 1920s,  even the waste paper bin by the Count's writing desk. A very ornate and decadent residence spanning over several floors. Kristin snuck into the top floor with a Swedish tour group, but got caught out and removed when the only Swedish she could say was Volvo and ABBA.

We walked to Railway station to buy our tickets to the airport (Arlanda, a different one to our arrival, Bromma) as we need to be at the airport by about 7 am. We are leaving to go Oslo for 2 nights.
We decided we needed to have a 3rd look at the Old Town, Gamla Stan.
After the Old Town we walked to the Humlegarden area before returning to our hotel. An early dinner (Thai take away again) and early to bed fot a 5:30 start!

Another great city and we'll be  sad to leave in the morning.
Cheers,
A & K.
