Transfer days are like round three of a major golf tournament, things change but it's not the finish.
This morning we went for a good walk around the "new" town of Tallinn and realistically we could have been in Melbourne. Once again we saw some lovely churches (does any place in Europe not have 10 churches within 500m of each other?!).
After a drink and lunch in the town square, finished where we started, we returned to pack up our belongings at the apartment. Unfortunately this apartment has been bad since we arrived and despite agreeing to meet at 2 pm, to hand over keys, the owner didn't front. We had a plane to catch so we left the keys at the restaurant next door, I hope he eventually gets them! (The apartment was a 10/10 for location, 5/10 for comfort and a 0/10 for cleanliness ).
We got to the airport and as we were boarding a plane we met an older Australian couple, Don and Glenys. Their son has been living in Estonia for 12 years (IT) and they visit annually. They are both ex-teachers, Don Maths/Physics and Glenys Home Eco. They both know John Fraser (ex Rosebud HS principal, taught with him in the bush) and Glenys know Lyn Hipwell ( someone please mention that to her). They live in Camberwell and both mark VCE exams, Don Specialist Maths, small world!
Arriving in Sweden, we got the airport bus to the city centre and walked to our hotel (15 mins up hill).
After settling in, we walked Observatory Hill, but nowadays the view is obscured by buildings and trees.
We decided to have a drink at a bar on a main street (sitting outside of course), it was a fairly young crowd, so we hardly stood out!
We had nearly finished our drinks when these 2 young ladies (Diana and Tina) sat near us. They were drinking wine and shots of something. Kristin enquired what the shots were, well next thing we were drinking shots that tasted like cough medicine (benedryl).
They were very friendly girls, in fact they were on their way to work at a bar, that was open to 7 am. I think they probably wore less clothes at their work!
( Is this what got Jake the Peg in trouble?)
They were really nice people and were genuinely interested in us, Australia and our travels. Diana told us about plenty of Stockholm sights and also that there was some World Championship of Harness Racing this weekend (in fact she was "accompanying" someone there on Saturday).
We bought another round of shots before we all parted, Tina said get the Fisherman's shots. So I came back with 4 shots and guess what, it tasted like?
A liquid Fisherman's Friend cough lolly. Note to self, if you get a cold in Stockholm don't go to the Chemist, go to a bar!
A good transfer day, and looking forward to tackling the Stockholm sights tomorrow.
Cheers (skal),
A & K.

You meet the best people! No one like that in Belfast, or anywhere else in the Emerald Isle. At least thick, black Irish medicine tastes good - and the amber ones from the Bushmills or Jamesons dispensary are OK too
