Istanbul: Day 3

We have been blessed with the weather so far, everyday about 21C, blue skies and slight breezes. Today was just as good.
They say there are 7 hills of Istanbul and I think we have walked up and down them all.
We went to the Grand Bazaar this morning, Kristin was in her element. There are over 3300 shops in the Bazaar, but the surrounding streets would at least double that. It is right up there with great bazaars/markets of the world.

From the Bazaar we wandered down through the streets towards the Spice Bazaar. We walked across the Galata bridge, which spans the Golden Horn, and then caught the Furnicular up to Beygolu. Beygolu is a very upmarket area of Istanbul and the location of many of the embassies.

We wandered around the streets for a couple of hours and had Gozleme for lunch.

We walked down from Beygolu to the Galata Tower, which was built in the 1300s. It stands 65 m high, not so impressive now but would have given commandering views over Istanbul.

From there we caught the tram(light rail) back to Sultanahmet. We are now experts on the Istanbul metro system.  We have managed to recharge our card several times, using both the machines and a little kiosk.
Andy had a little siesta and Kristin went for a wander around the Blue Mosque and Aya Sofia.
For dinner, we went to a little Kurdish restaurant called the Stone House. We hadn't intended to go in there, we were actually looking at the place next door.

The place next door, Mitara, was not for us. We had a very enjoyable evening. It is a family run restaurant, mainly a brother and sister, who made the meal very enjoyable, there is live music played there as well.
Cheers, A & K.
