When we arrived in Katapola (Amorgos) our hotel (Le Grand Bleu - The Big Blue - their was a famous French film based on the lives, partially true to real life, of two free divers who grew up on Amorgos) was waiting for us at the port to take us to the hotel, a free transfer is always welcome.
Katapola is not a very big town, my best discription would be a quaint little fishing village. This is the image I gave of a Greek Island, Santorini and Rhodes were fantastic but very commercial and touristy.
After settling in, the afternoon was spent walking to a remote sandy beach, called Maltezi. This was a bit of a hike in the warm weather but certainly worth it. We had to walk along a Rocky shore and go over a hill or two to get to the beach. The crystal clear water at this beach was remarkably cool compared to the waters we have been swimming in over the last 4 weeks. At this little beach you could hire sun-lounges and buy a drink at a bar (which incidently had the coldest beer we've had in Greece). We caught the boat back to the port.

After a bit of grocery shopping and a walk back to the hotel, we had a couple of drinks and a snack sitting on our balcony looking out to the harbour and surrounding hills.Andy thinks one of the hills looks like Jabba The Hutt, maybe the ouzo and coke was a little strong!

For dinner, we ate at one of the waterside restaurants, Gavalas, where you could feed both the fishes (bread) in the water and the plethora of cats (scraps). Kristin had a local fish, Skaros, which was the female of the species (it was red & the male is grey), Andy had a T-bone steak. The prices of the food and drink were close to half of what you'd pay in Santorini!
We are really liking the quiet laid back nature of Amorgos so far.
