We rose very early (5:45 am) to get the express train to Arlanda airport. Very smoothe and nearly got to 200 kmh.
Arrived in Oslo. One of our bags has been treated poorly by airport staff and by the time Andy had drag the suitcase to our hostel one of the wheels looked liked a pancake of one side. We couldn't check in for several hours so we went for a walk and were happy to see what we'd run into.
The first attraction was the Opera House. Supposedly it was to challenge the Sydney Opera House...I don't think so! But you can walk on the roof.
After that we decided to walk up the central "drag' of Oslo. This led us to the Parliament, University and the Royal Palace. Just as we arrived at the University area the delegates were leaving a symposium on Evaard Munch and considering we will go to the museum tomorrow we thought it was okay to partake in the afternoon tea...very nice!
The Royal palace was a... Royal Palace...nothing too grand but on top of the hill of the main thoroughfare of Oslo.
We kept heading East to Frogner Park, sometimes mistakeingly called Vinegard Park after the sculptor who created all of sculptures on Frogner Park
They are very interesting, created between 1920 and 1944.
The major theme is about the circle of life, I think! The pictures probably don't do justice.
From there we walked back to our hotel via a few sights that we'll do in detail tomorrow ( especially the Novel Peace Center) .
For dinner, as usual we wander around until a nice Danish girl suggested we go to an Indisn restaurant and her advice was good. ( We actually saw her there later with her friend, so it was no set up). She has also suggested a good area to eat outside the usual tourist area. ..so tomorrow night could be good!
Cheers,
A & K
