Copenhagen: Day 3

Last day in Denmark and the end of 2 weeks in Scandinavia.

A cultural day, the National Gallery, the National Museum and the highlight the NY Carlsberg Glyptoteket.

We spent over 3 hours at the National Gallery. Besides Danish artwork and Renaissance art which had a Da Vinci, El Greco and progress to Rembrandt, more Munch and others. There were some modern (1900 to present day) exhibitions and a pop art/avante garde exhibition which was a bit risqué.

Next stop was the National Museum, interesting enough but nothing special.

Our last stop was the Glyptoteket, which is a museum created by the owner (C Jacobson) of the Carlsberg brewery. The collection is huge and contains sculptures of Rodin (I think I've seen 4 Thinkers now), Degas bronzes and a lot of Roman, Greek and Egyptian sculptures. The other part of the collection is the Impressionists, about 40 Matisse works, Monet, Manet, Van Gogh, Cezanne, Gauguin and others. A must see in Copenhagen.

An early (8pm?) dinner and a short walk around  the city as we had an early start in the morning...off to Poland (Krakow).

Cheers,

A & K.
