Dubrovnik: Day 2

A quick blog today.

Another beach day today. We caught the ferry to the island of Lokrum. Lokrum is an island in the Adriatic Sea 600 metres from Dubrovnik. A monastery and a botanical garden are on the island. We didn't do much exploring, just sun - baking and swimming. There were a lot of peacocks wandering around the island.

The evening was a quiet affair, we dined at a Bosnian restaurant called Taj Mahal (no Indian food on the menu...go figure). We shared the meat dish for 2, called the Genesis Khan, an assortment of bbq grilled meats.

After dinner we sat in square and had a couple of nightcaps, next thing we realised it was well past midnight.

Off to Greece tomorrow. A bit of a travel day, we arrive in Rhodes late in the day.

Cheers,

Dubrovnik: Day 1

It was sad to leave Korkula, it was also very hot waiting for the ferry/catamaran to Dubrovnik and crowed when we got on it. The ferry took about 2 hours with one stop at Mljet.

Dubrovnik is as busy as Split was, with lots of tourists in the streets. When we found our accommodation in the Old Town quite easily (once again photo instructions made it very easy). The room is very basic but the location is excellent.

When we ventured out in the afternoon, the streets were very warm, marble, marble and more marble! We decided to do the Dubrovnik Wall walk. The Walls circle the Old Tiwn and provide magnificent views of Dubrovnik, a must for a visit to Dubrovnik. It was good to do it as soon as we got to Dubrovnik, to get one's bearings and to spot where the beaches a tree and to appreciate how beautiful it is here. A side note for this who don't know, Dubrovnik is the location used for King's Landing in the TV series The Games of Thrones - in the  town there are special G.O.T. tours and lots of soucenis).

Buza Bar - more later

At the end of the walk, about 2 hours (including a beer stop), we were extremely hot and bothered, so we went to the little inlet where the kayaks leave from and had a quick dip. Not so nice there, so we walked through the Old Town around the harbour and had a swim where the locals go, beneath the Walls, a much better location. Also here you could buy drinks at very good prices.

After a rest, we headed out just on sunset and found the famous Buza Bar, which is found by walking through a narrow gate in the Wall on the Southern side facing the water. The bar is built on the cliff above the water and has several levels. On our Wall walk early we saw the bar and it is also a swimming spot from the lower level. Many (young) people were jumping off the rocks  (several metres high) into the sea. The views from the bar are pretty impressive.

We dined at a restaurant called Tezoro, all very nice but nothing special. After our meal we ended up at a little cafe/bar in front of the Church of Saint Blair.  It is a great spot to people watch, listen to the music across the street and enjoy a nightcap or two.

Another enjoyable day.

Cheers,
