After a late night with Peter and Cormac, some were going a bit slow this morning. Not Andy of course, who jumped out of bed and went shopping for breakfast. Peter and Cormac checked out of their hotel and dropped their bags at the apartment (they were leaving for Melbourne in the evening ).
As we had all seen the sights of Rome previously we decided to just wander around and see what we would run into, the only place on the agenda was the Pantheon.
We ended up seeing(not in order): Quirinal Palace, Quattro Fontane, Trevi Fountain (under refurbishment), Pantheon, Piazza Novona, lots of churches and monuments, Ponte di Umberto, Palace of justice, distant view of the Vatican and Castel Sant'Angelo, the Spanish steps and other things. All in mid 30sC heat.
Rome surprised me as not being too big to see all the main sights. We had lunch at a cafe and went back to the apartment to rest and have a few drinks before Peter and Cormac left for the airport via the Leonardo Express. It was great to spend time with them in Rome.
We headed out later towards the Colesseum. Andy took a brilliant shotcut and we ended up in a perfect location to take photos and luckily somewhere to have a quiet beer!
From the Colosseum we headed along the forums to Piazza Venezia, a spectacular display of ancient Rome.
We headed back towards the apartment, grabbed a snack and drink at a restaurant and then called it a night.
An early start(7 am rise) on Sunday as we head down to Catania in Sicily.
Cheers
A & K.
