Goodbye Morocco..Bom Dia Lisbon

The last full day in Morocco started in a windy warm Essaouira and finished in a hot and steamy Marrakech.

Our morning started with a 2 hour walk around the bay at Essaouira, watching the kite surfers, surfers, camel rides, horse rides, quad bikers and anything else you could think of.  It was very windy.

Back in the Medina we had lunch at a lovely terrace cafe, Le Simoun, overlooking the city walls, cannons and ocean.

At about 3 pm we headed back to Marrakech, almost 3 hour car trip. When we got out of the car, the temperature was about 42C, a bit of a change from Essaouira which had been only in high 20s.

For dinner, we found a place on TA called Rock 'n Kech, which looked good but when we got there it was closed! So we went back to Cafe Arabe. By the time we reached there, we were heating up and narrowly avoided being cleaned up by several motorbikes, so the first Casablancas (beer) hardly touched the sides. Half an hour later a thunderstorm struck Marrakech and this was a welcome relief to the heat. Even though we were getting wet,  we and about another 6 just sat back in the rain and enjoyed the lightshow and a few more drinks and a meal. We spent some time talking to a German, Harry, a different type!

The next day we left Marrakech for Lisbon. This involved 2 legs, first to Casablanca, a short stopover and then onto Lisbon.  The approach into Lisbon is a great view coming from the South.

Our apartment is in the Baxia-Chiado area and is very comfortable. We dine at a place called Rica Bucha where had tapas food (Bucha?). It has only opened recently but it really good. Each dish was €1.50 (~$2), we had a couple each and were of a high quality.

We had a good walk around our area before having a glass of red back at the he apartment. It was midnight and had been a long day!

Cheers,

A & K.

  1. I love the paving in the squares, especially that wavy one. The paving was laid by convicts - which seems like a good way to rehabilitate or at least get them doing something useful
